Red Hat Announces Independent Y2K Compliance Certification

Official Red Hat Linux 5.2 and 6.0 for Intel have been certified as Year 2000 compliant by The Software Laboratory Limited.

DURHAM -

Red Hat Inc., (NASDAQ: RHAT) a leading developer and provider of open source Linux-based operating system (OS) solutions, today announced that Official Red Hat Linux 5.2 and 6.0 for the Intel architecture have been certified as Year 2000 (Y2K) compliant by The Software Laboratory Limited, a UK-based, third-party testing organization.

"Independent certification provides neutral, independent validation to ensure customers that Red Hat's powerful Linux-based OS solutions are fully Y2K compliant and will continue to operate smoothly into the next century," said Erik Troan, director of engineering at Red Hat, Inc.

The Software Laboratory independently ran 1,020 separate tests on Red Hat Linux 5.2 and 6.0 in a controlled environment at their head quarters in the UK. All testing was done isolated from any Red Hat influence or input. Both the Red Hat Linux 5.2 and 6.0 versions were tested exactly as shipped, with the addition of resources from Red Hats web site. The Software Laboratory rated Red Hat Linux versions 5.2 and 6.0 as "highly compliant" and a complete copy of the testing procedures and results as released by The Software Laboratory can be found at http://www.redhat.com/legal/y2k_statement.html.

The underlying concept, within integrity and independence, is a laboratory which provides a controlled environment for testing, which is readily available such that tests can be run in a reproducible manner, whilst a full audit trail is maintained.
