Here are the basic instructions needed to get the Red Hat Enterprise Linux virtual machine up and running: **************** **************** System Requirements * Red Hat Enterprise Linux version 4 has been pre-installed and configured for demonstration purposes, inside a virtual machine, for the purposes of verifying application binary compatibility. * In order to use this demo you need to have a suitable VMware environment installed on a host system. * To download VMware products, please visit http://www.vmware.com/ You should get an appropriate license key if required. * At least 6 GB of free disk space for each VM will be required. * The VM is configured to use 512 MB RAM. We recommend at least 1 GB RAM for the host machine. Installation and Usage Instructions 1. Uncompress the downloaded archive into a known directory (e.g. /usr/vmware/virtualmachines/ or C:\vmware\virtualmachines). 2. From VMware console, select to open an existing Virtual Machine. Choose File-->Open and navigate to the directory where the archive was uncompressed (/usr/vmware/virtualmachines/ or C:\vmware\virtualmacines). Go to the appropriate virtual machine's directory and you should see a vmx file. Select this file to open the virtual machine. 3. Select "Create" in the dialog box that asks for creation of a new UUID. 4. Start the virtual machine by selecting the "Start the Virtual machine" command or by selecting the green "Power On" button. 5. The virtual machine should boot up in about a 30 - 120 seconds. Login as root. Password is "Redhat". 6. The virtual machine uses bridged networking. For more about networking options VMware provides, read the VMware documentation. 7. Start using the Red Hat Enterprise Linux virtual machine. Please note that this demo is intended for ISV developers to familiarize with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Some packages may not have been installed in the interest of minimizing the size of the download. If you would like to install packages such as Open Office please feel free to do so.
