Red Hat and Hewlett-Packard have worked together for more than six years, with a shared commitment to the continued success of open source technology and its community. Together we are delivering to enterprise customers the benefits of open source and Linux, including improved cost economics, increased choice and flexibility, performance, security, community commitment to quality and collaboration and a robust and open enterprise-class, operating environment.

Most recently, our two companies have collaborated to test, certify, optimize and provide support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 on HP platforms. Red Hat Enterprise Linux is a leading platform for open source computing and delivers the full value of open source through a common code base from desktop to datacenter, a subscription model that delivers constant value and a development model that prevents vendor lock-in while fostering innovation.

“Because HP has led the Linux market for an unprecedented nine consecutive years, and Red Hat continues to serve as the world’s leading Linux distribution provider, our customers have the confidence that we can help them deploy unparalleled Linux solutions,” said Christine Martino, vice president, Open Source and Linux Organization, HP. “Over the past six years, HP has broadened its suite of platforms certified against Red Hat Enterprise Linux, including our latest BladeSystem c-Class. We look forward to continuing to set the standard for Linux with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 by improving upon our world-leading performance results across the industry’s most demanding and diverse workloads.”

With HP and Red Hat innovations, our partners and customers can build end-to-end Linux and open source solutions based on an always-on infrastructure with open, stable foundations for the future.

HP and Red Hat collaborate to bring the benefits of Red Hat Enterprise Linux on HP BladeSystem environments, including simplified manageability to accelerate implementation, streamline operations, boost efficiency and significantly reduce deployment costs. Red Hat Enterprise Linux on the latest HP c-Class BladeSystem increases customer adaptability so that they can more easily scale capacity and performance based on workload demands and business priorities. Customers achieve lower TCO by utilizing industry standard hardware and software components and more effectively utilizing resources at hand.

HP sells and supports Red Hat’s product suite, making it easy for customers to buy an integrated solution including hardware, software and services. HP offers one-stop shopping as well as total solution accountability throughout a customer’s Linux lifecycle.

A full portfolio of HP services for Red Hat Enterprise Linux is delivered by more than 6,500 Linux and open source service professionals with 16 response centers around the globe. As part of HP’s partnership with Red Hat, HP offers services for each step in the lifecycle, from integration to support, to outsourced management. Complementing HP’s services, Red Hat certified training and consulting services gives customers complete coverage for moving to new HP and Red Hat solutions.

HP and Red Hat engineers work hand-in-hand to ensure Red Hat Enterprise Linux is optimized for HP platforms. HP software engineers perform benchmark and performance testing throughout the product lifecycle. They simulate customer environments, anticipate and resolve issues and push systems to their limits. This has resulted in numerous benchmarks. For instance, in December 2006, HP and Red Hat combined to achieve leadership TPC-H performance for the 300 GB category (at 40,411 QphH) with an HP BladeSystem BL480c cluster and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 running Oracle Database 10g Release 2 Enterprise Edition.

HP keeps engineers on site at Red Hat to focus on performance testing and to work closely with Red Hat development teams to ensure seamless integration.

HP software and drivers make deployment easy. All HP platforms include software and drivers to help customers set up, deploy and configure their Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems rapidly and with ease.

Not surprisingly, HP and Red Hat customers are taking Linux deeper into their enterprises to run databases and mission-critical business applications. More than 1,800 third party applications are now qualified to run on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and Red Hat supports its releases for a minimum of seven years to assure business customers that their deployments are supported for their long-run needs. Together HP and Red Hat work with other partners to build solutions for vertical markets such as financial services and communications.

For instance, testing conducted by Red Hat, HP and Reuters has shown that the new Open Message Model (OMM) of Reuters Market Data System (RMDS) 6.0 dramatically reduces latency and improves throughput (over the message performance of previous versions of RMDS) by up to 150%. HP has become the first vendor to engineer an RMDS system with over one million backbone updates per second through a single server and four million updates per second of fan out. This performance has only ever been achieved on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. In recent performance tests conducted by Technology Business Development Corporation, RMDS 6.0 surpassed previous benchmarks using the power and performance of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 running on the dual-core Intel Xeon processor-based HP ProLiant DL380 server. Now Reuters can consistently deliver the ever-expanding volume of market data at more than 1.8 million updates per second.

And in the telecommunications market, Red Hat and HP are delivering high-performance, high-density, carrier-grade technologies. Red Hat Enterprise Linux is the preferred operating system for the HP AdvancedTCA Blade server. Based on the PICMG 3.x specification known as the Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (AdvancedTCA), HP ATCA blade servers are part of the HP Advanced Open Telecom Platform (AOTP) solution framework. The HP ATCA blade server platform allows Network Service Providers to achieve the optimum price/performance in next-generation, carrier-grade telecom systems as they migrate to commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) carrier-grade products.

Together, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 with integrated virtualization, along with HP open source and Linux solutions on platforms like HP BladeSystem c-Class, deliver unmatched value and flexibility and provide an powerful open source foundation for IT infrastructures.
