RED HAT DELIVERS NEW EUROPEAN CONSULTANCY PROGRAMME

-

Red Hat Europe, a leader in open source Internet infrastructure solutions, today announced the launch of its new European Consultancy Programme to help consultancy services companies develop their Linux services business. It also enables potential customers to have easy access to on-site Linux services from consultancy companies. Consultancy companies will help their clients implement a Linux solution knowing that they have the backing of Red Hat's global expertise.

``The Red Hat European Consultancy Programme offers a way for customers to gain access to consultancy companies offering on-site Red Hat Linux technical services throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa,'' commented Alastair Markillie, European Consultancy Programme Manager, Red Hat Europe. ``Members of the programme will be able to provide occasional days of on-site support through to helping to design and implement large scale integrated systems. Companies in the programme must have Red Hat Certified Engineers (RHCE) on staff, so customers can have confidence that the work will be performed to a high standard.''

The Red Hat European Consultancy Programme consists of two membership levels, namely the Red Hat Consultancy Partner and Red Hat Consultancy Associate. A typical partner will be a mid-to-large services provider who can offer a very diverse set of IT services, targeted towards customers requiring help with any size of project in terms of size and complexity. A typical associate will be a small-to-mid-sized service provider which is able to offer services suited to companies requiring help on small to medium scale projects with between one-twenty days on-site consultancy or ongoing help. Both an Associate and a Partner will employ a number of RHCEs, who will focus on Linux as a business line.

Members of the Red Hat European Consultancy programme will have access to a wide range of information and benefits. Members will have to meet set of criteria and once the appropriate annual fee has been paid, members will be added to the European Consultancy Programme online. From this point, customers can then get direct access to Red Hat Linux technical services that members offer. For a full list of benefits visit www.europe.redhat.com/rhecp

Open Source Momentum
International Data Corp research states that paid Linux shipments grew faster than any other server operating system over the past two years, and their preliminary figures for 1999 show Linux shipments hold 24.6 percent of the server operating system market, up from 15.8 in 1998. IDC also states that Red Hat holds 50.2 percent of Linux vendor market share and that Red Hat Linux is by far the most popular distribution, preferred by 68.7 percent of U.S. Linux users.

Research firm Netcraft, Inc. (www.netcraft.com), states that as of May 2000, 36 percent of all public Web sites run on Linux-based operating systems, making Linux the most popular choice for deploying public Web sites. IDC research shows 40 percent of all spending on Linux servers is for Internet related applications, firmly entrenching Linux servers in the Internet infrastructure.

Red Hat's numerous alliances with industry leaders and the demand for Linux-based applications has created open source support from many of the industry's leading software and hardware manufacturers, including Dell, Intel, IBM, Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, Computer Associates, Netscape, Novell, Oracle and SAP.
