Jim Whitehurst - CEO and President of Red Hat

Jim joined Red Hat as President and CEO in December 2007. He most recently served as COO of Delta Airlines.

Jim brings operational pragmatism with technology savvy to the lead role at Red Hat. A technologist at an early age, Jim programmed customer relationship software for stockbrokers as a teenager and attended Rice University as a Computer Science Major. Jim earned his MBA from Harvard and went on to become a partner at Boston Consulting Group. Delta was a major customer of his at BCG.

Jim chose Red Hat because it's a company with a strong culture driven by a mission. He is driving strategic focus for the company and narrowing Red Hat's aperture to include initiatives that make Red Hat the best in the markets it serves; the best enterprise technology provider and leader of open source. Jim is also a big proponent in encouraging Red Hat customers to not only consume the company's solutions, but to also contribute back to drive innovation across the entire open source community.

Paul Cormier - Executive Vice President and President, Products and Technologies at Red Hat

Since joining Red Hat in May 2001, Paul Cormier, executive vice president and president, Products and Technologies, has offered leadership and experience in enterprise technology that led to the introduction of Red Hat's acclaimed line of enterprise products, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Cormier has also been instrumental in bringing Red Hat into leadership positions in the virtualization, cloud computing, and middleware technology industries.

Prior to joining Red Hat, Cormier served as senior vice president of Research and Development at BindView, helping the company achieve market leadership in 2000. Cormier holds a Master of Science degree in software development and management from Rochester Institute of Technology.

Derek Chan - Head of Digital Operations

Derek Chan is the Head of Digital Operations for DreamWorks Animation. In this role, Derek provides strategic vision and planning for the animation studio’s computing infrastructure – which includes Systems Engineering, Systems Operations, Technical Resource Management, Hardware Engineering and Virtual Studio Collaboration development.

Derek joined DreamWorks in 1996 as a pipeline software developer focused on creating the render queue management system that has been used on every DreamWorks Animation film to date. Derek was then promoted to Software Development Manager where he directed a team of developers that focused on 2D and 3D pipeline issues. This team was called upon to develop the first new application, ToonShooter, completely on Linux. This ground-breaking new pencil test system was instrumental in establishing DreamWorks Animation as the industry leader in the use of Linux on the desktop and in the datacenter.

After successfully leading those software development efforts, Derek was asked to focus on Digital Operations. As the Head of Digital Operations for DreamWorks Animation, Derek has been at the forefront of numerous technology initiatives that have enabled the company to reach the unprecedented scale and creative milestones including:

  • The transition to Linux and commodity hardware from high cost specialized hardware and software
  • The formation of key strategic alliances with partners such as Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)
  • The unification of DreamWorks Animation and PDI/DreamWorks Animation on a single proprietary toolset and infrastructure
  • The development and licensing of the company's Virtual Studio Collaboration system which has enabled revolutionary cross-site collaboration

Derek is a member of Advisory Councils for Hewlett-Packard, Advanced Micro Devices, and the Open Source Development Lab. Derek is also a member of the Visual Effects Society and the Science and Technology Council's Task Force on Digital Motion Picture Archiving for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Robert S. Sutor
Dr. Robert S. Sutor - Vice President, Open Source and Linux, IBM Software Group

Dr. Bob Sutor is the Vice President of Open Source and Linux for the IBM Corporation. In this role he has the responsibility for driving the IBM strategy, sales enablement, and technical pre-sales for software running on Linux and other open source environments. He works with customers, partners, government leaders, analysts, and the press to understand the value of adopting business-critical open source and Linux. He is also responsible for driving and executing the cross-company business and policy strategy for open standards as they relate to software, hardware, services, vertical industries, and emerging markets.

A 26 year veteran of IBM, Sutor worked for 15 years in IBM Research, specializing in symbolic mathematical computation and Internet publishing. He co-authored the books Axiom: The Scientific Computation System and The LaTeX Web Companion. Sutor was a co-author of the W3C Recommendation Mathematical Markup Language (MathML) as well as the W3C Recommendation Document Object Model Level 1.

In 1999 Dr. Sutor moved to the IBM Software Group and focused on jump starting industry use of XML. This led to positions on the Board of Directors of the OASIS standards group and the vice chairmanship of the ebXML effort, a joint OASIS/United Nations endeavor. Sutor then led IBM's industry standards and Web services strategy efforts. Dr. Sutor is a widely read blogger and is a frequent speaker around the world on open source, Linux, open standards, virtual worlds, and cloud computing. He is widely cited in the press; was featured in interviews in the Harvard Business Review, CNET, eWeek, and InfoWorld; and was quoted in the Wall Street Journal and the Economist. In 2006 Sutor was named as one of Computer Business Review's "Open Source VIPs".

Dr. Sutor has an undergraduate degree from Harvard College and a Ph.D. from Princeton University, both in Mathematics.

Brian Stevens - CTO and Vice President, Engineering at Red Hat

Brian Stevens joined Red Hat's senior management team in 2001 and has been critical to the company's enterprise operating system, storage and virtualization strategies. As CTO and Vice President, Engineering, he manages Red Hat's research and development organizations for Linux, virtualization, security, messaging, and systems management.

Stevens began his career at Digital Equipment Corporation, where he was a developer on the first commercial release of the X Windows System. In his 14 years at Digital, he went on to become a senior member of technical staff, where he was responsible for the architecture and development of the UNIX and clustering product lines.

Stevens earned a bachelor's of science degree in Computer Science from the University of New Hampshire and a master's of science in Computer Systems from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Steve Rubinow - Executive Vice President and CIO, NYSE Euronext

Steve Rubinow is Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer, NYSE Euronext. He is responsible for most technology endeavors at the company.

Prior to joining NYSE Euronext, Mr. Rubinow was Chief Technology Officer of Archipelago Holdings, Inc, prior to its merger with the NYSE in 2006. He was Chief Technology Officer since July 2001 and was responsible for Archipelago's software development, database development, quality assurance, operations, and client connectivity areas, whose staff is located in Chicago, New York, Orlando and San Francisco.

Prior to Archipelago, Mr. Rubinow worked in Silicon Valley as Senior Vice President and Chief Information/Technology Officer at NextCard, Inc., a leading Internet provider of consumer credit that had a successful IPO in 1999. He was responsible for all aspects of technology including software and database engineering, operations, architecture and quality assurance. Prior to joining NextCard, he was the Chief Information Officer at another successful start-up, AdKnowledge, Inc. which was acquired by CMGI in 2001.

Mr. Rubinow was Vice President, Corporate Management Information Systems at Fidelity Investments where he developed an Information Architecture to integrate the information housed in a vast array of software and hardware technologies across Fidelity's 40+ divisions. He also developed critical systems for use in the core mutual fund investment area and evaluated new companies as potential candidates for investment by Fidelity Ventures. He served on the adjunct faculty in Computer Science at DePaul University from 1986-1994, where he taught undergraduate and graduate classes in database technology and analytic systems. Steve earned the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry and a M.B.A. at the University of Illinois (ranking first in his class) as well as a M.S. in Computer Science at DePaul University.

Mark Fulgham - Vice President Data Center Emerging Technologies Central Marketing Organization, Cisco Systems, Inc.

Mark Fulgham is Vice President of Data Center Emerging Technologies for the Central Marketing Organization of Cisco Systems, Inc. Mark is currently focused on Cisco’s Unified Computing Solutions and Data Center Virtualization programs, where he is responsible for overall outbound marketing programs, product marketing and field enablement, partner ecosystem marketing, and data center architecture, processes and operations. Mark has over 25 years of experience in Information Technology (IT) service provider, product and end-user organizations.

Mark joined Cisco from Hewlett-Packard Company (HP), where he was Vice President for HP Services Global Engineering, supporting Outsourcing Services, Technology Services and Consulting & Integration organizations.

As Managing Director of Global Distributed Technologies for Electronic Data Systems (EDS), Mark supported the development of commercial and government IT portfolio offerings.

As Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in residence with Reuters Venture Capital, Mark was responsible for managing multiple portfolio investments, including Decision Support and Intellectual Property Asset Management companies.

Mark has an extensive product development background that includes Research & Development at HP Labs and serving as a Technical Fellow with The Boeing Company for his work in Mainframe to Unix Migration.

Mark has Advanced Degrees in Industrial & System Engineering from San Jose State and holds several patents in the area of structured and unstructured data manipulation.

Mark resides in Mountain View, California, with his wife Melanie and their daughter Madison.
