Red Hat Launches Virtual Training Offerings Delivered by Open Source Technology

Red Hat to now offer Live Access Labs and virtual training to enhance technical experience with Red Hat solutions

RALEIGH, N.C -

Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced the availability of two new North American training offerings that are delivered by open source technology. Red Hat will offer virtual training to students in remote locations and Live Access Labs that allow students access to remotely hosted Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems.

Through Red Hat's virtual training, remote students will be offered live, streamed Web delivery of Red Hat training courses. Virtual students will register for courses as though they were live students, but will receive course books and kits prior to the start of the class. Courses will initially include eight to 10, 4-hour sessions delivered over two weeks. Early course offerings include RH033VT Red Hat Linux Essentials and RH133VT Red Hat Enterprise Linux System Administration.

Virtual training students will also have access to Live Access Labs, allowing weekly use of a remote Red Hat Enterprise Linux system provided for students to complete course labs to gain additional expertise with the system. The Live Access Labs will also be offered separately as a self-study training option or practice-system time for participants.

We're excited to open our industry-acclaimed training opportunities to more throughout the industry through our virtual classes and Live Access Labs, said Scott McBrien, manager, New Media, Global Learning Services at Red Hat. To be able to additionally deliver these opportunities on technology that is open source is thrilling and encouraging to our mission.

Red Hat's virtual training is delivered by open source software and uses Ogg Vorbis, a popular open source media format, to bring training classes to remote students. It also utilizes a combination of GStreamer, an open source solution that produces the video stream, and icecast, an open source solution that will distribute the stream to listeners.

Red Hat offers a variety of Linux training and certification courses that include five levels of certifications for customers: Red Hat Certified Technician (RHCT), Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), Red Hat Certified Security Specialist (RHCSS), Red Hat Certified Data Center Specialist (RHCDS) and Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA).

Virtual training and Live Access Labs will be available globally soon. Open enrollment events in January include RH033VT Red Hat Linux Essentials, taking place January 7-18, and RH131VT Red Hat Linux System Administration, taking place January 21-31.
