The new system helps increase revenue per customer and allows RSA business analysts to make dynamic changes to insurance rules.
With a 300-year heritage, RSA is one of the world’s leading multinational insurance groups. Today, it employs around 23,000 people, serving 17 million customers in 140 countries. Although its origins lie in London, RSA is a global company with businesses in both mature and emerging markets. It has major operations in the UK, Ireland, Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe, Canada, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.
The consumer insurance market is extremely competitive. Therefore, it is imperative that a customer receives efficient, competitive, and comprehensive services when visiting the RSA eChoice website. In addition, it is important that RSA’s eBusiness team has the capability to modify business rules in a timely fashion in order to respond to changing market conditions.
RSA implemented JBoss® Enterprise BRMS in order to allow the eBusiness team to make dynamic changes to the eChoice web application. Based on changing market conditions, the eBusiness team can now modify the rules as required without needing to ask for a change request from IT. JBoss Enterprise BRMS was integrated with RSA’s existing infrastructure so when a customer visits the eChoice website, the rules engine is consulted and the appropriate additional products are presented with the insurance quotation. These rules are implemented into the system as a decision table, so non-technical staff can understand and modify these rules without requiring additional support from IT.
The implementation of JBoss Enterprise BRMS allows RSA to respond more quickly to changing market conditions by giving nontechnical team members the ability to change business rules in real time. JBoss Enterprise BRMS was easily integrated into the existing RSA infrastructure and will be able to accommodate further requirements in the future. For example, RSA are looking at extending the use of rules to expedite the main quotation process.
Most importantly, the system has demonstrated superior performance, security, and reliability — critical characteristics of a system that underpins revenue generation for RSA.
