Red Hat Government News

June 2007

NOTE TO GOVERNMENT CUSTOMERS FROM PAUL SMITH

These are exciting times for both open source and Red Hat. As you know, we just wrapped up our Red Hat 2007 Summit in San Diego where we announced Hill Air Force Base, a major division for the U.S. Air Force, as one of six winners of a Red Hat Innovation Award. I am pleased to inform you that an online voting community selected Hill Air Force Base as their top pick and has been named the Innovator of the Year. Congratulations Hill.

Information sharing and collaboration is key for any successful partnership and Red Hat values its commitment to provide proven, industry-standard technology solutions. It is important to Red Hat to include you in our communications so we can share new case studies, information on emerging technologies within Red Hat, and events to keep you updated on the continued adoption of open source within the federal government. Please feel free to contact me or my team if you would like to know more about any of the articles featured in this newsletter.

Respectfully,
Paul Smith, VP of Government Sales Operations

RED HAT COMPLETES METAMATRIX TRANSACTION

Today marks the completion of our acquisition of substantially all of the assets of MetaMatrix, Inc., a leader in data management and integration software. By acquiring these MetaMatrix assets, Red Hat enhances its JBoss service-oriented architecture (SOA) products with the next generation of data management and integration capabilities. Also, the acquisition of these assets provides Red Hat with a foundation in data management software. Customers will now be able to more easily migrate their applications by enabling data to be more accessible regardless of differences in data sources and formats.

FEDORA 7 NOW AVAILABLE

Fedora Core and Fedora Extras have merged to create Fedora 7, the first open source appliance development stack builder.

Fedora 7 provides the first appliance development platform that is 100 percent open source with an entirely free distribution build toolchain and advances customization ability. The Fedora 7 source code is hosted in a public version control system, the RPMs are built on an external build system, and the distributions are built with an external, open source compose tool that allows access by the entire Fedora community.
