Understanding your subscription inventory using Subscription Asset Manager

The Red Hat subscription provides value to your IT departments. Depending on how your company purchases, your IT department might have many different subscriptions with different end dates and SLAs. Your department might not know what machines are covered by which SLA or how many subscriptions are still available.

To solve these issues, we include the Subscription Asset Manager (SAM) tool with your Red Hat subscription. You can use it to track your system inventory and your subscription usage across bare-metal machines and cloud deployments. The new enhanced reporting feature gives you historical views of your data. It integrates with Red Hat Satellite 5.6 to provide a report of historical subscription consumption across both SAM and Red Hat Satellite 5.6.

This session will combine concept overview—including an overview of differences between Red Hat Satellite 5.6 and SAM—and a live demo of SAM and its integration with Red Hat Satellite 5.6. We’ll focus on new features, like enhanced reporting, and how you can apply them to solve real datacenter issues. You’ll also learn about the SAM roadmap to understand what future releases will look like.

Symantec Storage Foundation High Availability in Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform

OpenStack is a cloud operating system that controls large pools of compute, storage, and networking resources throughout a datacenter—all managed through a dashboard that gives control to administrators while empowering their users to provision resources through a web interface. OpenStack’s block storage component (Cinder) allows block devices to be exposed and connected to running virtual machines on the compute nodes for providing expanded storage, better performance, and integration with enterprise storage platforms.

With new NoSQL stores arriving to the market frequently, choosing the right datastore can be a tough challenge. Each store provides its own low-level APIs, and migrating from one store to another is anything but simple.

Hibernate Object/Grid Mapper (OGM) provides easy access to NoSQL stores via the well-known Java Persistence API (JPA). Java developers who know how to use JPA also know how to access their favorite NoSQL stores.

In this session, you’ll learn:

  • How Hibernate OGM maps common JPA constructs to key-value, document, and graph datastores.
  • How to work with JPA on top of datastores such as Infinispan, MongoDB. and Neo4j and switch between them as a matter of configuration.
  • How to query for data using JP-QL and native queries.
  • How to use Hibernate OGM to access MongoDB on Red Hat’s PaaS, OpenShift by Red Hat.

The next-generation firewall for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 beta

The Linux packet filtering technology, iptables, has its roots in times when networking was relatively simple and network bandwidth was measured in mere megabits. Emerging technologies, such as distributed NAT, overlay networks and containers require enhanced functionality and additional flexibility. In parallel, the next generation of network cards with speeds of 40Gb and 100Gb will put additional pressure on performance.

In the upcoming Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, a new dynamic firewall service, FirewallD, is planned to provide greater flexibility over iptables by eliminating service disruptions during rule updates, abstraction, and support for different network trust zones. Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform and Wildfly (the JBoss Community project previously known as “JBoss Application Server”) have redefined how people view Java EE and enterprise middleware.
