1993 Whitepaper Proposing to "free" UNIX

Content

Larry McVoy's 1993 "The Sourceware Operating System Proposal" is a proposal to free the UNIX sourcecode and licensing terms. The proposal's arguments were remarkably well ahead of their time, and the predictions it made have come very close to reality. In particular, the paper prophesies great things for the future of the Linux OS.

We asked Larry if we could post it here. His reaction was, "Well what harm can it do now?"  ;-)
