Step 1:
Learn more about Virtualization

Read the articles, papers and presentations in the Virtualization Resource Center to get a leg up on the various approaches to virtualization and advice for getting your organization prepared for this cost-saving technology.

Step 2:
Try Virtualization Technology Now

You can experience a pre-release (Alpha) version of virtualization technology and provide direct feedback to Red Hat's development group with the recent release of Fedora Core 5.

Fedora is a Red Hat sponsored open source development project that provides an unsupported but highly functional Linux distribution. It enables users and developers to preview and contribute to technologies that are proposed for inclusion in future releases of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Fedora is available now for free download at http://fedora.redhat.com

Step 3:
Learn How Red Hat Can Help Your Company Optimize with Virtualization

Most firms practice some form of the Plan, Develop, Implement, Manage cycle to effectively and safely adopt new solutions and infrastructure. The availability of technologies such as virtualization offer great opportunity in cost savings, flexibility and improved service levels in IT. Red Hat is pleased to offer the following services to allow IT departments to asses the impacts of virtualization on their existing operations and plan new projects.

  • Opportunity assessment. The opportunity assessment models different ways in which virtualization can be used to defer acquisition of new equipment, provide higher availability through failover and redundancy and to improve response times and throughput by load balancing. This project delivers a report that evaluates the common use cases for virtualization against your environment and highlights the opportunities for adoption.
  • Planning service. This multi-day service includes detailed steps to utilize virtualization in ways suggested by the opportunity assessment. The output is a specific timetable of implementation, skills required, any software updates that need to be made beforehand, and detailed, step by step activities for each task.
  • Implementation services. This service involves Red Hat performing the work necessary to follow the planning developed in a prior engagement. This can be combined with training such that your own staff is intimately involved and able to move the implementation forward as future needs and requirements emerge.
