After a month of successful beta testing, we’re pleased to announce today the general availability of Red Hat Developer Toolset 2.1, the latest update to Red Hat’s collection of stable, essential C and C++ compilers and complementary development tools. Red Hat Developer Toolset bridges development agility with production stability by providing access to essential developer tooling on a separate, accelerated lifecycle with a more frequent release cadence.

This means that developers working on Red Hat Enterprise Linux can gain access to the latest, stable versions of key open developer tools, like the GNU Compiler Collection (GCC) and Eclipse, outside of the standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux release cycle without sacrificing stability or security. Red Hat Developer Toolset has the added benefit of enabling C and C++ developers to compile once and deploy to multiple versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Beta, across physical, virtual and cloud environments, like OpenShift by Red Hat, Red Hat's Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offering.

New to Developer Toolset 2.1 is Git 1.8.4, which provides both gcc and non-gcc developers using Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 with a powerful distributed version control system, designed to handle projects of any size with speed and efficiency. Updates are also included for GCC 4.8.2, Eclipse 4.3.1 and elfutils .157, to deliver the latest, most stable releases of these tools to Red Hat customers.

Red Hat Developer Toolset 2.1 is available for users who develope applications for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, as well as for those who would like to compile in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and run their applications in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Beta. Users can gain access to Red Hat Developer Toolset 2.1 by subscribing to one of the following offerings:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Developer Suite
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Developer Support Subscriptions
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Developer Workstation
  • NFT subscriptions for qualifying partners
