Needless to say I still can't reproduce this locally :-(

That's no fun. I am sure you looked at that already, but the last change to lexer.l was this: https://github.com/hercules-team/augeas/commit/93e6ba2172f7188a426d11b7064685ed5a4f67d4#diff-efe9f8f7d601fffd8bedc312e8713866

I wonder if it's worth patching that out in Koji to see if that changes anything.

However I have started a scratch build using your tarball + with the
tests enabled again:
