Problem with glibc-2.1.1 and gcc-2.95 (prerelease)

Hi folks,

On an AlphaPC164LX, Linux 2.2.3, glibc 2.1.1pre2, binutils 2.9.1.0.24.

I tried to compile glibc-2.1.1, with crypt and threads, using gcc:
  gcc version 2.95 19990714 (prerelease)

Seems I was able to compile it using "-O -g". There are (expected) errors in
the complex float tests, and other errors in the pattern matching tests (dunno
about those).

Problem is when I try to crank up the optimization level:
  "-O2 -mcpu=ev56", "-O2 -mcpu=ev56 -fno-strict-aliasing", "-O3 -g"
all lead to producing a ld-linux.so.2 that immediately gets a SIGSEGV and dies.

Is this a known problem? Is this a glibc or a egcs problem? I'm not sure how
to get a trace from ld-linux.so.2 to see where it dies...

Could anyone shed some light on this ?

TIA,
					Christian
