Well, it may indeed be that the RH install kernel wasn't built with serial
console support, and that'd be the reason this didn't work. My problem is
that the machine that I could build a 2.2.X kernel *with* serial console
on isn't where this machine is- otherwise I would have just done a debug
cycle...

FWIW, here's the NetBSD boot messages which also say what it actually
is... If you have a vastly different h/w variant of Rawhide, it'd be cool
to know whether this kernel (which is ELF based to could be loaded by
linux) copes with *your* h/w.....
