Developing PALCode on RH 7.1/7.2?

Group,

I work on the development of the Sombrero operating system for the Alpha
at ASU. See this url: <http://www.eas.asu.edu/~sasos/>. Currently, we
develop our PALCode using the EBSDK on NT 4.0. I would like to move
this to RH 7.1/7.2 to reduce the number of patforms required for
building the OS. I studied MILO and tried to set up my make files and
tools the same.

I have thus far tried and failed. The two versions of gnu as just
produce diferent machine code. In fact I find it somewhat unusual that
the assembly instructions do not correspond to machine instructions.
Through looking at output listings and such, it seems that the assembler
gets creative in interpreting lda and ldah. Is there anyway to get the
assembler to just generate the code as written? Or is this the wrong
thing to want?

Don

BTW, when I earlier updated my $10 164LX, I used the yum approach. I
downloaded the updates, ran yum-arch, did the manual steps from the
release notes and let yum do the rest. Thanks.
