I see that Qgis is on the list of need-to-be-fixed.  It has a much smaller
footprint than the monster GRASS GIS, but has a decent minimal functionality
with .shp files.  If I get some time and a decent internet connection I'll
give it a shot.

I had Qcad built from sources and working on AC 1.0.  It will load on AC 2 but
only from a mounted AC1 installation.  AC3 doesn't build it and doesn't load
the built version from AC1.  Let me take another look at it.

GIS and CAD are a big deal for me, don't know about other list members.
