Hi,

Oliver has pushed a new set of kernel RPMS into the "updates"
repository on buildsys.zero42.at.

Besides updating to a kernel based on 2.6.24.4, it has the following
additional modules built:

1. snd-es18xx - intended for use with the builtin ES1888 chipset
   on MIATA and XP1000.

2. eepro100 - intended for use on machines configured with one of the
   Intel 8255[789] NIC chips.

The snd-es18xx module should support the built-in sound chip on MIATA
and XP1000; I've yet to get it to work on XP1000, and have not tried
on MIATA. Should anyone take the time/trouble to investigate, PLEASE
keep us informed of any progress!!!

Pertinent to #2 above - the current e100 driver, which gets
built by default and handles those same NIC chipsets, is having
problems on Alpha (many "e100_watchdog: transmit timed out" msgs),
and performance can be severely degraded.

The eepro100 driver does not exhibit this problem, so a workaround
is to force use of it rather than e100. One does this by making a new
entry in the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist file, like so:

blacklist e100

Once that's done, rebooting SHOULD result in use of eepro100 and not
the e100 driver; check it via "/sbin/lsmod | grep 100".

So, the order is:
1. install the new 2.6.24.4-64.2axp.fc8 kernel
2. edit /etc/aboot.conf to default to the new kernel
2. edit blacklist file to add e100
3. reboot

You SHOULD come up with the eepro100 driver used.

Let us know of any issues.

Good luck.
