Hi Christian!

No, the 111 doesn't mean the port number, I actually don't know what it 
stands for. I haven't changed the defaults. The same thing happens if I 
explicitly tell the client to use port 3306:

mysql -h 192.168.0.93 -u david -p -P 3306

The exact same error message appears.
