update needed on software synthesizers for linux

are we talking here about the run-time user license?
in that case I think if it is distrubuted then $5 per device wont be a big cost.
how is the old version used, what are the actions needed to make it
compateble with kernel 2.6?
and by the way how are the ATNT natural voices?  and do they have port
for linux for their speach synth?  has any one ever tried it?
