Take a look on mutt. IIRC it is able to fetch messages via POP3. If this 
does not work, you have to use fetchmail to retrive your messages.

I can send you my .muttrc file if you like, because the internal pager 
of mutt and some other settings aren't very usefill for blind users. I 
use nano / pico to read and write my messages and also the disply 
options are changed.
