Configuring printers

Cups will take care of all that. Double check that you've correctly
selected your model in the several cups dropdowns. Then consider the
various interface protocol options available. Lastly google your printer
mfg, model and the perhaps the words cups config to find out what other
people have done.
Use http://google.com/linux for your google search.

Also, look at http://www.linuxprinting.org

Please note that there are many printers not supported in Linux, usually
because their specs are considered to be trade secrets by the
manufacturer. When using Linux it's generally wise to check
compatibility before purchasing new devices like printers--though you
may certainly have had your printer before coming to linux. I do
understand that.
