You need nothing approaching the level of paranoia evinced by Microsoft
users.

1.)	Don't run Firefox as root
2.)	Don't open servers until you understand what you're doing with
them.

I think that about covers it.

NOTE: By default today's distros install with most, if not all, services
disabled with the exception of ssh. If you're not listening for traffic,
you can't execute malware.
