slackware current mplayer

cannot play dvd's.  The same movie disk won't even play with mplayer 
complaining it can't find a sound stream on it.
I'll have to install several dependencies for vlc and then vlc from 
slackbuilds.org to see if vlc works as well on slackware as it does on 
debian.  That's a weekend project though.
