[Cluster-devel] [GFS2 Patch] [Try 5] GFS2: Reduce file fragmentation

Hi,

This is my fifth attempt at posting my file defragmentation patch
for GFS2. This patch incorporates many of the things suggested by
Steve Whitehouse in past emails. Notes:

1. The reservations now keep track of starting point and free space,
and the starting point advances as blocks are claimed. This eliminates
a couple variables from the reservations structure and makes it
   shorter, and the code smaller.
2. I'm using a spin_lock now to protect the reservation tree rather
   than the mutex.
3. I'm not trying to implement an Orlov allocator for the directories
for this iteration. I'm now keeping the inode blocks closer together
by having the inode create function grab an allocation on behalf of
the new inode, using the parent directory.

Description:

This patch reduces GFS2 file fragmentation by pre-reserving blocks.

Bob Peterson
