ext3 should have just the same.

Check you don't have older ones in your path.  If you are using the
latest ones, then the only things which should ever cause a forced
e2fsck are filesystem errors or interval expiry (man tune2fs to find
about forced fsck intervals.)  In all cases, e2fsck will tell you why
it is doing the fsck: either "Mount count exceeded, fsck forced" or
"Filesystem has errors, fsck forced" or something similar.
