What do you mean by "too much time"?  Are we talking seconds or
minutes?  Do you see a completion bar (i.e., the "spinner") during the
fsck process?

Is the fsck printing any messages?  If so, what are they?

Are your filesystems ext2 or ext3?  If you say they're ext3, are you
*sure* they're really ext3?

I have no idea what you're trying to say here.  Are you saying that
when you go to a newer kernel, you're not seeing the long fsck time?
