Problem with root filesystem

Exactly this happened to me.  The reason it happened is that 2.4.10 + ext3
has some sort of bug.  Use 2.4.10 + acx or (better) 2.4.12 + ac3.  (Ac means
"Alan Cox patches".  See ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/alan)

Anyway, I recovered by booting from a rescue floppy and then running tune2fs
-j on the root file system.  I don't know if you can fix when the root file
system is mounted.  If you don't have a rescue floppy, look at
