IIRC some time ago I read that "ext3" should not be used with "vfsold"-
but only with "vfsv0"-quotas. That's one of the reasons why I use "ac"
kernels on the file server that I maintain.

But I haven't testes disk quotas in "2.4.19-ac4", yet.

Du you also have "CONFIG_QFMT_V2=y"? Perhaps you've got "CONFIG_QFMT_V2=m" 
and the module must be inserted manually?

I don't know - but perhaps you might also need "CONFIG_QIFACE_COMPAT=y" 
together with "CONFIG_QIFACE_V2=y".
