No, neither ext2 nor ext3 maintains that information in a coherent
place except for in the inode metadata such as timestamps and filesize
(which is what rsync already uses.)

For me, a 5GB rsync is pretty quick --- just a few minutes, typically
--- so there may be other reasons why it is taking so long.
