Well, I'm not really up on the details of IDE internals, but my armchair
knowledge tells me that there are lots of problems reported with IDE DMA.
Supposedly a lot of these problems are fixed in Andre Hedrick's code,
which are part of the recent -ac patches.

If you have a system you can test I'd really suggest a newer kernel
(beta or whatever) given that you have had this problem a few times.
