[Ambassadors] thinking about 2009

I personally like the regional accountability, though honestly I'd say
in some regions it is still too early to tell. However EMEA and LATAM
appear to have this model well deployed and at the very least it
appears to work well there.

Two really diverse questions:
1. Regional meetings are useful - the one concern that arises with
regional meetings is the regions reinventing the wheel unnecessarily.
For instance, NA successfully duplicated EMEAs polo shirt design. My
fear about regional only, is that such things don't get committed.
That is one of the reasons I also tend to resist the move to regional
mailing lists.

2. FAmSCo isn't needed for event organization. To my knowledge FAmSCo
hasn't ever really provided this service that I can remember, except
for perhaps in the very early beginning.

FAmSCo should focus on the following in my opinion:

1. Developing and ensuring continuity of regional leadership.
2. Providing direction - setting guidelines for global Ambassador
behavior [1] that isn't culturally intrusive
3. Coordinating cross-regional efforts, and facilitating communication
between regional leadership.
4. Handling the 'big picture' perspective and setting the global goals
as they change over time for what Ambassadors and FAmSCo itself should
be doing.

I think that some of this means a structural change in FAmSCo. I think
that some seats on FAmSCo should be tied to regions. ie, have  NA,
EMEA, APAC, and LATAM FAmSCo seats, with the balance being at-large
seats.



[1] I have been pretty disappointed by some of the traffic occurring
on the Ambassador list. in the past 6 months. There appear to be more
and more Ambassadors who don't understand or don't support Fedora's
foundational principles, particularly Freedom. What causes me concern
isn't necessarily that those people have such opinions, but that they
are Ambassadors - they are supposed to represent Fedora to the world
and either they don't have a clear understanding or they disagree with
it.
