Contributing Writer: ThomasChung

=== Rawhide 20080404 Snapshot Released ===

JesseKeating announces in fedora-announce-list[1],

"As part of our development schedule, we are releasing a snapshot of
Rawhide in Live form. We are releasing these via bittorrent
only as it is a much lighter weight method to get bits out the door than
to go through our mirroring system."

[1] https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-announce-list/2008-April/msg00005.html

=== Call for Stories ===

PaulFrields announces in fedora-announce-list[1],

"We're looking for Fedora Stories -- a person who wants to talk about how
Fedora has enabled them to do something interesting or exciting with the
innovative technology we provide. We want to use these stories as part
of the bigger Marketing Plan for Fedora."

[1] https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-announce-list/2008-April/msg00004.html

=== Announcement list for Fedora Translation Community ===

MarekMahut announces in fedora-announce-list[1],

"I would like to inform you about our new announce list for Fedora
Localization Project. The email address:
fedora-trans-announce redhat com"

[1] https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-announce-list/2008-April/msg00003.html

=== Purging old Fedora test releases ===

JesseKeating announces in fedora-announce-list[1],

"In order to make room for Fedora 9 and future releases, we are purging
all the old test releases on download.fedora.redhat.com. Both the Core
and post-Core test releases up to but not including Fedora 9 Beta."

[1] https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-announce-list/2008-April/msg00002.html

=== Fedora Mirrors Wanted ===

MattDomsch announces in fedora-announce-list[1],

"In preparation for the Fedora 9 release, I would like to add
additional public mirrors, particularly in areas where we have large
numbers of users, but few mirrors: China, India, Africa, and Brazil among
them."

[1] https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-announce-list/2008-April/msg00001.html

=== Fedora Unity releases updated Fedora 8 Re-Spin ===

JeroenVanMeeuwen announces in fedora-announce-list[1],

"The Fedora Unity Project is proud to announce the release of new ISO
Re-Spins (DVD and CD Sets) of Fedora 8. These Re-Spin ISOs are based
on the officially released Fedora 8 installation media and include all
updates released as of March 31st, 2008. The ISO images are available
for i386, x86_64 and PPC architectures via Jigdo starting Wednesday,

== Ambassadors ==

In this section, we cover Fedora Ambassadors Project.

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors

Contributing Writer: JeffreyTadlock

=== Fedora Events Budget ===

MaxSpevack posted two emails [1,2] to the Ambassadors mailing list
this week regarding the Fedora Events Budget. This is a big item for
Ambassadors as it is how we manage to have funds for the events we
attend and represent Fedora for. The first email outlines how the
funds are being distributed in the first quarter and what funds have
been spent so far. The second email covers events happening in the
second quarter and reminds Ambassadors that all events that are to be
considered for funding need to be on the Fedora Events [3] page by May
1st, 2008.

=== Fedora Ambassador Wall Posters ===

FrancescoUgolini and NicuBuculei worked together to produce Ambassador
Wall posters [1] based on quotes Francesco gathered last month. The
posters look very impressive and add a personal feel to Fedora. They
will also make great posters to hang at future Fedora Events.

=== Fedora and Italian Communities ===

GianlucaVarisco posted [1] to the Ambassadors list a proposal for
trying to organize the Italian Fedora community more efficiently.
Currently there are several sources for information regarding Fedora.
Gianluca has suggested finding a way to centralize or organize these
resources to promote a stronger Italian Fedora community. If you have
ideas for them, please drop by the Ambassador's mailing list and help
them out.

=== Jesse Keating at Northeastern University ===

The video of JesseKeating speaking at Northeastern University has been
posted to Google Video [1]. Swing by and check the video out - it
might provide material and talking points for talks in your region.

=== Automated Ambassador Stats ===

FabianAffolter has automated the counting of Ambassadors by region as
posted [1] in the Ambassador mailing list. The details and link to
the script are posted in the announcement email. Additional feedback
and assistance with gathering these statistics are welcomed.

(Section 3)
== Advisory Board ==

In this section, we cover discussion in Fedora Advisory Board.

=== Fedora TV Becoming A Reality? ===

The Fedora Project was previously working with the engineers behind
Lulu.TV on creating a "Fedora TV" project, but once this Web 2.0
startup faded away, so did any hopes of Fedora TV actually becoming a
reality. However, GregDeKoenigsberg has rejuvenated these video
efforts and is looking for advice on setting up this project to
distribute Fedora-related videos[1]. The goal of Fedora TV will be to
let Fedora users upload videos related to this free software operating
system and making it easily accessible to others with distribution via
Ogg Theora. The current options for this project range from just using
Archive.org videos to setting up Miro on fedoraproject.org

(Section 4)
== Translation ==

This section, we cover the news surrounding the Fedora Translation
(L10n) Project.

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/L10N

Contributing Writer: MarekMahut

=== Fedora 9 preview Release Notes ===

MarekMahut informs[1] the community about
fedora-trans-announce redhat com creation.

"The idea is to serve something similar to fedora-announce-list, but
only for L10N community. Due to wide distribution of emails through
fedora-trans-announce redhat com, only mailing list moderators can
approve posts to this mailing list. At the moment, moderators are same
as fedora-trans-list, but this will change once we get our FLSCo. One
of responsibility of FLSCo members will be reviewing and approving
posts to fedora-trans-announce."

[1] https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-trans-list/2008-April/msg00012.html

=== For those interested in L10N Infrastructure Development ===

AsgeirFrimannsson calls[1] for volunteers interested in Translation
Infrastructure developmenet on fedora-trans-list.

"During the L10N IRC meeting yesterday we briefly touched on the pressing need
for more volunteers in the maintenance and development of the Fedora L10N
infrastructure. We need people with many types of skills."

[1] https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-trans-list/2008-April/msg00020.html

=== GSoC 2008: Transifex - Federated architecture ===

AndreasLouca writes[1] on fedora-trans-list about his participation in
Google Summer of Code.

"As part of the Google Summer of Code, I will apply to Fedora project,
for an improvement to Transifex. The project title is Transifex:
Server-federated architecture, and it was originally suggested by
Dimitris Glezos, and this proposal is drafted on top of the ideas we
discussed with him earlier."

[1] https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-trans-list/2008-April/msg00040.html

=== F9 Countdown Translation ===

RickyZhou asked[1] on fedora-trans-list for help in translation the
Fedora 9 release counter.

"In the spirit of making our website more l10n-friendly, we want to try
translating the F9 release counter this time around. Unfortunately, we
weren't able to just stuff all of this into a PO file, as the placement
of the text may need to be adjusted for different languages."

(Section 5)
== Infrastructure ==

This section contains the discussion happening on the
fedora-infrastructure-list

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Infrastructure

Contributing Writer:  HuzaifaSidhpurwala

=== xen7 networking issue? ===

ToshioKuratomi writes on fedora-infrastructure-list [1]

Some one reported that the wiki was down, on trying to ssh it timed
out where as ping was working fine. Later it seemed that someone else
was using this ip address. MikeMcGrath found a mac address which was
doing this.

=== FAS2 problems ===

MichaelSchwendt writes for fedora-infrastructure-list [2]

Michael reported that https://fedorahosted.org/fas2/ was not working.
Later in the thread someone responded that i has been changed to
https://fedorahosted.org/fas. Apart from that a couple of other links
have also changed.

(Section 6)
== Artwork ==

In this section, we cover Fedora Artwork Project.

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork

Contributing Writer: NicuBuculei

=== Looking ahead: Fedora 10 Themes ===

With the Fedora 9 graphics almost done and checked into Rawhide, the
Art team does not rest on its laurels, it starts to explore new
concepts which can be used in the next version, Fedora 10.

The first with the initiative is AndyFitzsimon who propose reviving or
building upon the flying high concept from FC7: "Nothing say infinite
freedom like looking to the sky."

FrankMurphy comes [2] with a concept about waterfalls: "Roar=Voice,
Timeless=Infinite, Flowing=Freedom" and MairinDuffy with two concepts
[3]: one based on neon lights "neon being the 10th element in the
periodic table of elements", "The link between sulphur and neon would
be that they are both elements" and steampunk: "We could come up with
some very interesting visual ideas to accompany bathysphere, such as
underwater aquatic scenes or we could go for a really really cool
steampunk look".

People are enthusiastic about the proposals, MartinSourada create the
placeholder page [4] for Fedora 10 themes, NicuBuculei comes with a
couple of original graphic concepts [5], [6] and a first theme, Gears
[7], is formally proposed [8].

=== Nodoka evolves for Fedora 10 ===

With work started on desktop art, it also start on the Nodoka
metatheme (GTK+, Metacity). Mark comes with a first round of
suggestions [1] and later with a mock-up [2], GianPaoloMureddu and
MartinSourada with their round of suggestion and questions to further
refine the ideas.

[4] https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-art-list/2008-April/msg00095.html

=== A Fedora 9 concept: 9 swirls ===

AndyFitzsimon comes with an interesting concept for Fedora 9, '''9
swirls''': "lets illustrate this unified effort through a wave.. a
fierce body of
water moving with such potential and momentum that it curls up in upon
itself.. forming a 9 shape". Too bad it is to late for Fedora 9, as
he discover himself quickly [2] and is also pointed by MairinDuffy [3]
even it the concept had its followers.
