  I have a similar computer, Athlon 1800+ w/ 512 RAM. My FC boots twice as
fast as a WinXP, with the graphical boot on.

  WinXP will become slower and slower each time you install some crap that
resides in the OS memory, like anti-virus (essential for Win), firewall
(essential) and other stupidities that will only work if they're permanently
using system memory.

  If this guy FC is taking 2 minutes to boot, he must have screwed the
installation of the system itself (by using 'root' as its user, maybe?)

  Here, FC boot are second only to FreeBSD.
