A simple solution like this makes sense to me. I just wanted to
clarify that we are only keeping the settings/preference files and not
the existence in the GUI for an entire year. If the device is plugged
back in the device becomes active in the UI again. Otherwise i would
have a lot of digital clutter on my desktop and in my printer folder
on my laptop.
