Questions regarding Linux Equivalents

Doskey?  Didn't that remember commands previously used?
That can be accomplished using the up arrow.
If you want something a little more advanced, try
set -o vi
to do line editing a la vi.  You could also use emacs, but that's heresy.  ;)
