Respecting setup's default wouldn't hurt, don't you think? Most desktop
computers has this settings, while this is not only undesired on
notebooks, but can be ackward, as you said.

DOS had the answer years ago: it didn't care. If numlock was on, it
would keep it on. That simple :-)
