GCC optimization bug (was python memory usage)

Jakub,

I see that bug #188649 is fixed in rawhide. I just ran my test case and
it is, indeed, fixed. Can this updated gcc and recompiled (possibly
updated to 2.4.3) be pushed to updates-testing soon? I don't know how
many other packages or people are affected by the bug, but it causes a
pretty serious memory problem for python (bug #188327) and it would be
nice to get this fixed.
