So far I found that gnome-keyboard-properties will fix this, but it is _not
and acceptable solution_.  Running this also screws up various other kde
settings!

For example, non-kde apps are now colored by the kde scheme, even though I
chose not to.  e.g., xemacs now has it's colors overridden.
