[RFC] /var versus /srv

And the FHS clearly states creating new /var roots is a no-go, so /var
is a dead-end for new protocol/serving needs (like bittorent)

As usual the FHS tries to catter to everyone by not closing the door
on existing non-streamlined practices. IMHO interested people @fedora
should just agree on a new clean all-encompassing /srv layout, and get
it stamped at FHS (keeping in mind the FHS will still allow older
practices, which is ok as long as there is a good preferred layout in
the standard)

/srv being: any variable data which primary purpose is being exposed
to other systems via a network interface (can include webapp variable
data)

/me thinks the FHS is intentionaly written in such a way it can be
interpreted at minima by laggards, but we should not block needed
changes just because there are escape clauses in the FHS.
