If Fedora's supposed target is a "regular desktop user" they will want 
to use Network Manager to find their IP address. Right click on 
NM-applet and Show Info. Done.

Leave ifconfig alone. Creating a new script won't solve anything. Normal 
users consider the terminal a "piece of crap" to put it lightly.
