AIUI, he had a damaged /home and intended to fix it with fsck after
installation, but was forced to create a user (hence write to /home)
before he could get to the repair step.
I'm mostly just a user, but I don't think I'd expect that to work. I'd
boot the CD to rescue mode and make sure all my carry-over file systems
were sound before commencing an installation.
Developers and other users, is his expectation a reasonable one?
