Well, your original "I have a hard time imagining ..., or am I missing 
something" question (see above) in this context still sounds to me that you 
meant that only interactive shells that invoke bashrc get /etc/profile.d 
snippets sourced, and that you seemed to have missed other ones that get them 
sourced too.  Maybe it's just me or my English.  Meh.
