How do you know without _actually trying_? I understand and can appreciate your 
motivations, but as said a zillion times, the way to go forward with this is to 
convert the current in kernel firmware users to the firmware loading mechanism 
currently present in the kernel.

Several kernel hackers on this list have said they are willing to support a 
drive for that, and upstream already has converted a few drivers in this way.

This is the way forward, as has been clearly stipulated many times now. The 
road to freedom is not without bumps, if you really want this, and want to make 
life easier for _all_ libre distro's this is the golden way, it might take a 
significant longer time, but when you are fighting for your dreams, that 
shouldn't matter.
