actually after chattr +i not even root can modify / delete the file:
[root wolfy2 tmp]# touch x
[root wolfy2 tmp]# chattr +i x
[root wolfy2 tmp]# echo "1" >> x
-bash: x: Permission denied
[root wolfy2 tmp]# rm x
rm: remove write-protected regular empty file `x'? y
rm: cannot remove `x': Operation not permitted
