F10 and no root login - impossible to maintain systems!

I've seen broken Ctrl-Alt-F2 problem on the box I'm using right now to write
this mail. However this problem is not persistent and I yet haven't found a
reliable way to reproduce it. On the GDM screen and right after logging in
switching works fine, but some time later it does brake. If I find how to
reproduce this I will file a bug.
