F10 and no root login - impossible to maintain systems!

Or trying to boot F10 on my desktop machine here at work, and run X.

Seriously, things do sometimes go wrong, and when they do, it helps no one to 
go "oh, well, it works on my machine so you must be wrong". It doesn't always 
involve the nVidia drivers.
