Fedora rel-eng meeting (20090316)

Here's my notes from today's Fedora rel-eng meeting.

Outline-style summary, for the impatient:

Beta status: "meh"
• not much testing on anaconda due to rewrite
• blocker list is thus not very long
• package signing is in progress (up to r*, skipped p*)
∘ This takes a long time since it's basically done by hand
∘ "< f13> I'd also like to reduce the times we have to resign the
world, by going to a single key for each release instead of one for test
and one for release"
• Keep signing packages, make some draft composes
∘ draft composes start today (if possible)
  ∘ test results go here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Fedora_11_Beta_Install_Test_Results

Full IRC log is attached. Enjoy!

14:06 < f13> There are only a couple blocker bugs, but a lot of that has been because we haven't been able to install rawhide in may configs due to the storage rewrite
14:06 < f13> there are still /lots/ of changes being made there each new anaconda build, which is scary
14:07 < f13> (and good?)
14:07 < rdieter> scary good
14:07 < f13> I don't have a good handle on whatelse is broken, I haven't seen a test results wiki page yet
14:08 < f13> I /think/ the compose tools are in shape, but I hear there is an install from live issue due to storage rewrite
14:08 < f13> Package signing continues to progress. I skipped the "p" packages and am currently signing the r* packages
14:08 -!- hanthana [n=hanthana 124 43 37 55] has quit [Remote closed the connection]
14:08 < f13> I didn't get to signing as much over the weekend as I had hoped to :/
14:09 < f13> thankfully the signed bits have been landing as they were done, rather than one giant pile at the end
14:09 -!- Pikachu_2015 [n=Pikachu_ 81-66-20-24 rev numericable fr] has joined #fedora-meeting
14:09 < dgilmore> there is not really any way to sign packages without entering the password lots of times is there?
14:10 < f13> well, I think in theory sigul can work in an automated way
14:10 < f13> without having an admin present for each passphrase entry
14:10 < f13> but we're not there yet
14:10 < dgilmore> rigth
14:11 -!- mizmo [n=duffy c-66-31-44-241 hsd1 ma comcast net] has joined #fedora-meeting
14:11 < f13> I'd also like to reduce the times we have to resign the world, by going to a single key for each release instead of one for test and one for release
14:11 < dgilmore> i think that makes sense
14:11 < f13> or have just one rawhide key period and one release key per release
14:11 < dgilmore> its what i planned on doing for sparc
14:11 < f13> something along those lines so that we don't churn the world 2x a release
14:12 < dgilmore> i was going to do 1 per release
14:12 < dgilmore> never a rawhide key
14:12 < dgilmore> but a F-11 key that would sign rawhide
14:12 < f13> Infrastructure is clearing off enough space so that we can land the beta on the master mirror
14:12 < f13> to do this, 7 and 8 are being archived
14:12 < dgilmore> that in turn moves seamlessly to F-11

14:14 -!- tkjacobsen [n=tkjacobs pppoe2-ves broadcom dk] has joined #fedora-meeting
14:15 < f13> so my plan is to keep signing packages, get compose-x86 and compose-ppc in well tested shape to make the images, and start making some draft images to play with
14:15 < f13> won't be RCs until the bugs are clear and the packages are signed, but pre-rcs can be used for testing
14:15 -!- fedora-angel [n=angel 116 193 168 54] has joined #fedora-meeting
14:16 < f13> Does anybody have any further thoughts on Beta?
14:16 < dgilmore> nope
14:16 -!- RodrigoPadula [n=Rodrigo 201 47 103 51] has joined #fedora-meeting
14:16 < wwoods> when do you expect to make the first of the test composes?
14:16 < f13> perhaps today if I don't get distracted
14:17 < f13> otherwise keep using rawhide
14:17 -!- RodrigoPadula [n=Rodrigo 201 47 103 51] has quit [Client Quit]
14:17 < wwoods> cool.
14:17 < notting> what does this do to the schedule?
14:17 < f13> wwoods: can you see to it that we get a wiki page up for test results?
14:18 < f13> notting: well, I told anaconda team that I needed a solid tree by Wed
14:18 < f13> in order to compose/stage and release next Tuesday
14:18 < wwoods> f13: will do
14:18 < f13> notting: I'm hoping signing will be done by then too
14:18 -!- Pikachu_2014 [n=Pikachu_ 81-66-20-24 rev numericable fr] has quit [Read error: 110 (Connection timed out)]
14:18 < f13> we should have the tree well tested minus any last minute storage bugs
14:20 < poelcat> f13: so that give us wed to fri to make sure it is good?
14:21 < f13> well, we can start picking off test items now
14:21 < f13> we'll have to re-verify them after Wed, but at least we'll know they should be working due to testing now
14:21 -!- giallu [n=giallu fedora/giallu] has joined #fedora-meeting

14:27 -!- f13 changed the topic of #fedora-meeting to: Fedora releng - open floor
