Oh, definitely. This is too major of a change to drop on current releases.

Offhand, I know that audacity needs to be updated to the CVS version (ie
"1.3.0 beta"). It's been close to a year since the last audacity release,
unfortunately. (FWIW, the CVS version *requires* wxWidgets 2.6.)
