gdm appears to use grayscale smoothing in F10. I don't know what the graphical
boot screen uses because I don't have a graphical-boot-supported graphics card.
The installer is still definitely broken. (I am assuming that this the
installer is not *deliberately* setting the font smoothing mode wrong though,
but rather, it's just inheriting a broken default from somewhere.)
